Côtes de Sambre et Meuse

Côtes de Sambre et Meuse follows the valleys of the Sambre and Meuse, not one continuous vineyard area. Its three Meuse-connected sub-basins include sloping sites, a broad grape register and still red, rosé and white wines.

Côtes de Sambre et Meuse is a Belgian wine PDO spread across three sub-basins linked to the Meuse: the lower Meuse, the upper Meuse and Oise, and the Sambre. Its boundary follows waterways rather than one continuous vineyard belt. In the valleys of the Sambre and Meuse, slopes improve sunlight exposure while the rivers release warmth in winter and cool the vineyards in summer.

The PDO covers still red, rosé and white wines. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir sit alongside Auxerrois, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gamay and interspecific varieties such as Bronner, Johanniter and Regent. With such a broad grape list, colour and grape variety are useful starting points when choosing a bottle. The valley setting can help grapes ripen while retaining freshness.
