Vlorë sits on Albania's southern coast, where the sea and coastal climate frame the local wine scene. Kanina and Dukat are named production areas for artisanal wines made mainly from local grape varieties.
Vlorë is also a protected wine name with PGI status. Vlosh, the area's important grape and wine name, is grown around Narta and in the hills of Kanina, Trevëllëzër and Zvërnec. Vlosh i Zi comes from light red-skinned grapes and is described as very full-bodied, with a light but intense bouquet. It can be made as a sweet wine, and its must is used for sweet wines and liqueurs. With age, Vlosh i Zi may turn onion-skin coloured, close to rosé.
