About 9 km west of Tirana, near Ndroq, Shesh village sits at roughly 460 metres on the boundary with Durrës. It is associated with wine and olive-oil trade with Italy from the fifth century BC and is presented as the origin of the Shesh vineyard.
Tirana belongs to the wider Durrës-Tirana coastal plain, Albania's largest wine-production area. Its warm, fertile land produces wines from indigenous and international varieties. Shesh i Bardhë, Albania's signature white grape, can show green apple, lemon and Mediterranean herbal notes. Higher vineyards are associated with fresher acidity and greater complexity. Shesh i Zi, meaning "black of the plain," usually makes medium-bodied reds with soft tannins and red-fruit character.
