On a plateau about 850 metres above sea level, Korca sits among the Morava, Gora, Qarri and Thatë mountain areas in southeastern Albania. It forms part of the country's eastern sub-mountain wine area, along with Pogradec and Kolonja. Continental conditions bring harsh, frosty winters, unlike the milder coastal wine regions.
