On a plateau about 850 metres above sea level, Korca sits among the Morava, Gora, Qarri and Thatë mountain areas in southeastern Albania. It forms part of the country's eastern sub-mountain wine area, along with Pogradec and Kolonja. Continental conditions bring harsh, frosty winters, a clear contrast with Albania's coastal wine regions. Wine shares the table with rakia in Korca, where mulberry rakia has a particular place in local drinking culture.
