Berat is an Albanian wine region and a registered Protected Geographical Indication for wine. Pulëz, an old Albanian grape also known as verdhëza or landari, is closely associated with the area, though it is grown across several southern Albanian regions.
Pulëz ripens later than many local varieties and is picked in early fall. Weeding and harvesting are still done by hand. Albanian farmers have selected the grape over centuries, and its harvest is marked by rural feasts, raki-making and Pulëz celebrations at several wineries each September.
The Berat wine-tour route includes Fushë-Peshtan, Roshnik and Ura Vajgurore. It brings older winemaking traditions together with current innovation, while Pulëz remains a clear link to the region's agricultural history.
