Who makes it

Paulinshof works vineyards in Kesten and Brauneberg, linking its home village to a wider set of Mosel sites. The named 2024 Paulinshof Riesling Kabinett trocken Von der Ley is a 100-percent Riesling from Mosel; its dry style places the grape’s fruit and acidity ahead of sweetness. Oliver Jüngling’s role in the cellar joins that Riesling-led planting to a clearly identified estate bottle.

The vineyards attached to Paulinshof were first mentioned in a deed of gift from King Heinrich I in 936. The estate later passed into private ownership during secularisation in 1803, moving from its former church trust-fund setting into a different form of stewardship. Today the Jüngling family owns the estate, with Oliver Jüngling making the wines, so its current dry Riesling range sits within a documented vineyard history that stretches far beyond the present label.

Where it grows

Mosel is the growing area, while Bernkastel is the appellation named for Paulinshof. Kesten is the estate’s base and one source of its holdings; Brauneberg is the other. Those place names matter on the label because Paulinshof’s wines are built from Riesling grown in specific Mosel vineyard areas, rather than from a generic German blend.

Von der Ley offers the most direct example of that relationship. It carries Mosel as its origin, Riesling as its grape and Kabinett trocken as its stated style, while the estate places it in the Paulinshof trocken collection. The result is a dry Riesling bottle whose name connects estate range, grape and regional origin in one line.

How it is made

The cellar

Steep slopes govern the vineyard routine. With gradients reaching 70 percent and hand harvesting across the estate’s hillside parcels, picking is a manual stage of the wine’s production rather than a distant farm operation. For Riesling, this gives the cellar fruit gathered bunch by bunch from terrain where speed is limited by the slope.

The estate’s planting is 98 percent Riesling, and the confirmed Von der Ley 2024 is made entirely from that grape. Its placement in the Paulinshof trocken collection shows a dry-wine intention: sweetness is not the main structural tool, leaving acidity, fruit weight and finish to carry the wine.

What they make

Paulinshof’s range is Riesling-led, with vineyards in Kesten and Brauneberg supplying the estate’s site-based material. Brauneberger Kammer stands apart as a named monopoly vineyard, while the Paulinshof trocken collection gathers dry wines under an estate range name. This structure moves from named vineyard ground to dry Riesling bottles, rather than treating every wine as interchangeable.

Paulinshof Riesling Kabinett trocken Von der Ley 2024 is the confirmed reference point within that dry collection. It is 100-percent Riesling from Mosel, so its frame is dry, high in natural acidity and light to medium in body rather than rich in tannin or oak-derived weight. The Kabinett name appears on the label, but the estate’s own collection places this particular wine firmly on the dry side of Riesling.

Wines to try

First bottle

Begin with Paulinshof Riesling Kabinett trocken Von der Ley 2024. It is a Mosel wine made from 100-percent Riesling and placed by the estate in its dry collection, joining the estate’s central grape to a named bottle already listed in Sweden. Look for dry citrus and fruit, brisk acidity, a light-bodied texture and a clean finish. It comes first because its label states the producer, region, grape, vintage and dry style without requiring a leap to an unverified vineyard claim.
