The Producer
Anne Schönleber-Liebler and Max Schönleber currently own Weingut Allendorf. Their stated approach is to enhance the differing terroirs of the wines and leave those differences unmasked.
That idea runs through a range extending from village-level Riesling to named-site bottlings and Riesling VDP.Sekt. Individual wines retain separate aromatic profiles, with herbal, floral, nutty, yellow-fruited and mineral details appearing across the Rieslings.
Place
The 2023 Rüdesheim Berg Roseneck Riesling VDP.Grosses Gewächs trocken has reserved aromatics, delicate herbal and nutty notes, and peach-led yellow fruit.
The 2022 Winkel Jesuitengarten Riesling VDP.Grosses Gewächs trocken takes a different register, combining light herbal character with calm yellow fruit, floral traces and mineral hints. The two wines place distinct Riesling profiles under their named Rheingau sites.
Wines
The 2024 Rüdesheim Riesling VDP.Ortswein opens delicately, with fresh herbal aromatics, bright yellow fruit and almond-like undertones.
The 2022 Riesling VDP.Sekt Brut brings tart citrus together with clear yeast and nut notes. Candied stone fruit, herbal tones and flowers fill out the nose. Its palate carries bright, cool fruit and restrained sweetness against crisp acidity and subtle mineral undertones. A medium-fine mousse leads into a fresh, slightly drying finish with vegetal tones and returning bright fruit.
Final Word
Allendorf’s aim to enhance differing terroirs sits beside Berg Roseneck as a named-site Riesling with its own reserved aromatic register.
