The Producer
Jean Trimbach established the house in Riquewihr. Trimbach now has 61 hectares (60 owned + 1 additional) and selects grapes from 35 partner winegrowers. All vineyard holdings and selected grapes have been certified organic since 2023, following more than ten years of organic practice.
For Clos Ste. Hune, cellar work comprises a cool, slow fermentation, quick racking off the lees, no malolactic fermentation and a short period in neutral wood foudres before bottling.
Place
Riesling Frédéric Emile comes from a single plot straddling the Osterberg and Geisberg Grand Crus in Ribeauvillé. The steep site faces south-southeast and has marl-calcaro-sandstone soils. Its vines are more than 55 years old, and the wine is entirely Riesling.
Wines
The Riesling range includes Trimbach Riesling, Réserve Riesling Trimbach, Riesling Vieilles Vignes and Riesling Frédéric Emile. Other bottlings span Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris Réserve, Pinot Gris Réserve Personnelle, Gewurztraminer, Gewurztraminer Vendange Tardive and Gewurztraminer Cuvée des Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre.
Riesling Vieilles Vignes has citrus and white-flower aromas, followed by a full palate with crystalline fruit and fine acidity.
Clos Ste. Hune combines enveloping richness, intense minerality and great structure. It spends five years in bottle before release and reaches peak expression eight to ten years after bottling.
