The Producer

Hugo Chaves was born in Viseu in 1972 and studied oenology at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. He participated in the foundation of Quinta de Lemos from 1997. His preferences run toward intense, full-bodied and palatable wines.

The vineyards operate under an integrated-protection program intended to minimize phytosanitary interventions. They are not irrigated, and yields are deliberately limited. Quinta de Lemos reports annual production of 100,000 bottles.

Wines

Quinta de Lemos works with Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Jaen and Alfrocheiro. Each year, the estate releases two blends alongside a selection of monovarietal wines.

Pica-Pica Quinta de Lemos 2015 is garnet-colored, with ripe-fruit, floral and pine-forest notes. Its palate is fresh and captivating, medium in scale, and ends with a long, savory finish. Developed aromas include dark berries, blue plums, herbs, oak and chocolate.

The wine is just over medium-bodied and complex, with firm, slightly dry tannins, balanced acidity, a long finish and a slightly warm finish. Total acidity is 6.39 g/dm³, with a pH of 3.65.
