The Producer
Frédéric Barnier joined Louis Jadot in 2010 as Technical Director, working under Jacques Lardière. Lardière had been responsible for winemaking and bottling for 42 years.
Maison Louis Jadot and Domaine Gagey are parallel labels within the same house. Maison Louis Jadot is primarily négociant sourced, while Domaine Gagey identifies Gagey family owned vineyard parcels. Pierre-Henry Gagey became President in 1992 and held the role until his retirement in 2023. His son Thibault Gagey currently serves as Managing Director.
The cellar uses long macerations, wild yeast fermentation when possible and new oak sparingly in ageing. Time in cask and the percentage of new oak change with each vintage.
Place
Bourgogne is a regional appellation, so its label covers a wider geographic category than a village or Premier Cru wine. For Jadot, Pinot Noir Bourgogne comes from vineyards across Côte d'Or and Côte Chalonnaise, while Chardonnay Bourgogne uses grapes from Mâconnais and Côte Chalonnaise.
Wines
Pinot Noir Bourgogne is the core red, made from 100% Pinot Noir. It brings plum, raspberry and cherry aromas, fresh red fruit flavors and refreshing acidity.
Chardonnay Bourgogne is the core white, made from 100% Chardonnay selected from growers in Mâconnais and Côte Chalonnaise. Its nose brings green apple, pear, crushed stone and floral notes, followed by bright citrus and slight tropical notes of apricot and pineapple. Partial oak ageing is part of its élevage.
Beaune 1er Cru Aux Cras under the Domaine Gagey label gives the range a named Premier Cru bottling. Premier Cru identifies a named vineyard level in Burgundy, more specific than a regional Bourgogne wine. Aux Cras leads with fine floral aromatics, then minerals and earth emerge from dark fruitiness, with great acidity.
Final Word
Maison Louis Jadot joins négociant sourcing with Gagey family parcels under the Maison Louis Jadot and Domaine Gagey labels. Vintage led cellar decisions carry through the wines from cask time to new oak.
