The Producer

About 70 grape suppliers feed Maison de Vigneron, a merchant winemaker working across Jura appellations. The company began in Crançot in 1981 as La Compagnie des Grands Vins du Jura.

The house works across two wine sources. Supplier fruit feeds the négociant range, while estate wines from its own holdings sit a step above that range. Vin Jaune and Château-Chalon are the standout estate offerings. HVE3 environmental certification has been in place since 2020.

Place

Crançot is the company's founding home in the Jura. Domaine de Savagny extends the estate side into southern Jura across approximately 55 hectares. Domaine Durand Perron is another estate label used by the house.

Wines

Crémant du Jura is the sparkling part of the range. Its cuvées must draw at least 70% of their composition from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Trousseau, and they spend at least 12 months ageing on lees. Flagship cuvées rest longer.

Vin Jaune is made exclusively from Savagnin. It ages in oak for 6 years and 3 months without topping up, allowing a veil of yeast to develop. Vin de Paille matures in casks for 3 years.

La Côte 39 is composed of 80% Savagnin and 20% Chardonnay, with the Savagnin aged under a yeast veil and the Chardonnay in topped up barrels. The wine has power, intensity, volume, balance and long ageing potential.

In The Glass

Crémant du Jura brings delicate floral notes and dried fruit, followed by pastry and brioche nuances. Time on lees can add bread like aromas and a rounder texture to sparkling wine.

Vin Jaune carries characteristic aromas of nuts, spices and dried fruits. The 2016 entry is soft and honeyed on the attack, with milky and candied fruit notes, good persistence and assured balance.

Final Word

Maison de Vigneron brings together broad Jura sourcing with estate wines from Domaine de Savagny and Domaine Durand Perron. The range moves from Crémant du Jura to Vin Jaune, Vin de Paille and Savagnin led La Côte 39.
