The Producer
Léon Beyer makes Alsace wines under a range of grape and cuvée names. Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir appear in the bottles described here, with Riesling R de Beyer and Cuvée des Comtes d'Eguisheim giving the white range more than one named form.
The wines are dry. Riesling R de Beyer shows concentrated dryness, while the Cuvée des Comtes d'Eguisheim bottlings include both Riesling and Pinot Gris. The range also includes a young Pinot Noir with savoury development through bottle age.
Place
Eguisheim is the Alsace village named in the Beyer family history. The family were winegrowers there before the trading house was established. Eguisheim also appears in the Cuvée des Comtes d'Eguisheim name, placing the village in both the family record and the bottle range.
Wines
The white range includes Riesling, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc, alongside Pinot Noir as the red wine. Riesling appears as R de Beyer and as Cuvée des Comtes d'Eguisheim, while Pinot Gris also has a Cuvée des Comtes d'Eguisheim bottling.
The Pinot Gris Cuvée is bone dry, broad and rounded, with nutty and herbal notes, toast and citrus. Pinot Noir 2022 provides a young red counterpart to the white wines.
Final Word
Léon Beyer joins an Eguisheim family history with dry Alsace wines across Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir.
