Who makes it

George Skouras founded the winery in 1986 in Pyrgela, outside Argos, using rented vineyards and equipment. Bottling was by hand, and Megas Oenos was released that first year.

George and Ourania remain active in the business. Their son Dimitris oversees vineyards and winemaking; their daughter Stella leads wine tourism and public relations.

Where it grows

The principal winery is outside Malandreni in Argolida. Nemea vineyards lie at 450 to 1,050 metres, with cooler conditions at the higher sites. An Agiorgitiko vineyard and winery are also at Gymno.

The Moschofilero facility is in Zevgolatio, Mantineia. Low temperatures in this region can delay harvest until mid October.

What they make

Saint George is the single-variety Nemea red; Megas Oenos is the Agiorgitiko and Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Megas Oenos 2022 has blackcurrant, black plum, cedar and spice, with a full body and long savoury finish.

Peplo Rosé High Elevation 2024 blends equal thirds of Agiorgitiko, Syrah and Mavrofilero. It has cherry, raspberry and floral aromas, medium body, noticeable acidity and a little ripe tannin.
