The Producer
Domaine du Coquerel is a family estate founded in 1937. It makes Pommeau de Normandie and carries out distillation on lees in three copper columns. French oak barrels previously used for Cognac, Pineau, Port, Rum and wine are reused over several cycles.
Pommeau de Normandie is the Norman aperitif. Domaine du Coquerel's production combines that regional category with natural fermentation and a cellar built around reused oak casks.
Place
Domaine du Coquerel is located at 24 route du Coquerel, 50600 Grandparigny, Normandy, France. Pommeau de Normandie carries the regional name in its appellation and is defined as the Norman aperitif, keeping the place directly on the bottle.
Wines
Coquerel Pommeau de Normandie is made by blending fresh apple juice with AOC Calvados, the protected appellation for Calvados. Domaine du Coquerel ages the blend for a minimum of 18 months in oak barrels.
The Pommeau has medium fullness and residual sweetness. Its nose carries tart apple, citrus and dried fruit. Baked apple and gentle bitterness mark the palate, while apple, honey and plum remain on the finish. Freshness, sweetness, acidity and lightness meet in the same bottle.
Final Word
Every production step at Domaine du Coquerel, from orchard to bottle, is controlled in house, with nothing outsourced or delegated.
