The Producer

Domaine de Vernus began in 2019 as a young Beaujolais domaine. Its cellar uses selective destemming based on vintage character. Destemming removes some or all stems before fermentation, changing the amount of stem material in the vat and the resulting perfume, spice and tannin.

Place

Régnié-Durette is the home of Domaine de Vernus. Régnié is a Beaujolais cru appellation, a defined village category within the wider region. The cru name narrows the place named on the bottle, while Beaujolais-Villages covers a broader regional category.

Wines

The range includes Beaujolais-Villages alongside the cru wines Régnié, Morgon, Chiroubles, Fleurie and Moulin-à-Vent. Régnié is represented as a red wine, while Régnié La Cadole/Vernus receives ten months in oak barrels during élevage. Oak gives that cuvée a distinct cellar role within the range.

Final Word

The 2023 Régnié shows dark fruit, savoury spice and a silky mouthfeel. Black pepper, smoked aromatics, violet and sweet spice lead into a fleshy, voluptuous palate with balanced character.
