The Producer
Clotilde Davenne came to Chablis in 1989 and worked with Brocard for 17 years before establishing an independent domaine in 2005. The domaine now spans approximately 30 hectares and reaches across several Burgundy areas. Its range includes still white, red and sparkling wines from different appellations.
Place
Chablis gives the domaine a detailed vineyard hierarchy. Petit Chablis and Chablis sit alongside Premier Cru and Grand Cru categories, which identify progressively more specific vineyard levels within the region. The holdings also reach Saint Bris and Irancy, bringing Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir into the wider range.
Wines
Petit Chablis and Chablis are the still white part of the range, with minerality, purity, freshness and notable acidity. The Premier Cru holdings include Montmains, Fourchaume, Vaillons and Vaucoupin. The Grand Cru holdings include Bougros, Les Clos and Blanchots.
Outside Chablis, the range includes Sauvignon Blanc from Saint Bris, Pinot Noir from Irancy, Crémant de Bourgogne and Bourgogne Côtes d'Auxerre Chardonnay. The Saint Bris Sauvignon Blanc comes from nearly 100 year old vines. The 2022 Bourgogne Côtes d'Auxerre Chardonnay received 93 points and has firm minerality with lemon tinged acidity. Crémant de Bourgogne is the sparkling wine in the range.
Final Word
Davenne farms without synthetic chemicals, harvests by hand and vinifies in stainless steel.
