The Producer
A marriage joined two Alsace winemaking families in 1998. Jean Dirler married Ludivine Hell-Cadé, daughter of Léon and Nicole Hell-Cadé, winemakers in Guebwiller. From the 2000 vintage, the estate took over her parents' vineyards and adopted the name Dirler-Cadé.
Jean Dirler founded the original estate in Bergholtz in 1871. All the domaine's plots have been cultivated organically and biodynamically since 1998. Its wines include Crémant d'Alsace Brut Nature and Riesling Grand Cru.
Place
Bergholtz is the village named in the estate's founding history. Guebwiller is the village linked to Ludivine Hell-Cadé's family vineyards. In the bottle, Crémant d'Alsace names the sparkling appellation, while Riesling Grand Cru names the classified vineyard level used by the Riesling wines. Grand Cru is a vineyard classification, so the latter label identifies a site category as well as the grape.
Wines
Dirler-Cadé Crémant d'Alsace Brut Nature 2022 is the sparkling bottle named in the range. Brut Nature is a zero dosage style, with no sugar added after disgorgement.
The Riesling Grand Cru wines bring intense mineral presence alongside fruit intensity, green apple, nectarine, citrus, floral and herbal notes, a fresh saline edge and rounded mouthfeel. The Crémant is taut, citrussy and aromatic, with fresh fruity character; it is crisp and stylish.
Final Word
Dirler-Cadé brings together a Bergholtz family estate, biodynamic farming across every plot, sparkling Crémant d'Alsace and Riesling Grand Cru wines.
