The Producer
At the Cune winery in Haro, CVNE's history begins in 1879. Two brothers founded the company, and direct descendants of the founding family still control it. The Haro portfolio includes Cune, Imperial, Real de Asúa, Monopole and Corona.
Vinification at Cune takes place in El Pilar, introduced in 1989 as Spain's first facility to move must using gravity led processes. CVNE also reduces phytosanitary products, uses cover crops to increase biodiversity, and designs vineyards to maximise water use while limiting runoff and erosion.
Place
CVNE is based in Haro in Rioja Alta, with the Cune winery in the Barrio de la Estación. Haro names the town and winery setting; Rioja Alta names the wider territory.
Wines
Cune Gran Reserva sits above Cune Crianza and Reserva as a wine intended for cellaring. Malolactic fermentation takes place in concrete, followed by 24 months in American and French oak and at least 36 months in the cellars after bottling.
Monopole is a young, classic Rioja white made from Rioja Alta grapes, with clean and precise aromas. The grapes receive 8 hours of skin contact at 10 to 12°C before pressing, then ferment in temperature controlled stainless steel to preserve Viura's fruity and floral primary aromas.
Final Word
CVNE's Haro winery combines family control, gravity led vinification and a range that runs from cellaring focused Cune Gran Reserva to young Rioja white Monopole.
