The Producer

When Yves Pertois and Janine Moriset married in 1951, they decided to create their own estate in Mesnil-sur-Oger. Their granddaughter Cécile Bauchet now manages the family run, independent house with her husband Vincent.

In the vineyards, Pertois-Moriset uses sexual confusion across all plots, a pest management method that disrupts mating cycles and reduces the need for chemical intervention. The estate also deployed the region's first 100% electric tractor for mechanical vineyard work. In the cellar, a pressing center installed in 2009 uses two stainless steel membrane presses.

Place

Chardonnay is the sole grape in the Côte des Blancs holdings, where 13.4 hectares are planted as 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay. Grand Cru is a Champagne vineyard classification, so the term describes the status of the source rather than a grape variety.

The Coteaux Sézannais area covers 7.3 hectares, planted with 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Pinot Noir introduces a red grape to the vineyard composition, while Chardonnay is present in both terroirs. Mesnil-sur-Oger remains the home village of the house created by Yves Pertois and Janine Moriset.

Wines

The range draws on Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs and on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Coteaux Sézannais. It includes a Special Club bottling, a designation available to members of the Club des Trésors de Champagne.

Champagne gains its mousse through a second fermentation in bottle. Lees contact can add roundness and texture, while Pertois-Moriset often blocks malolactic fermentation, leaving more malic acidity in the wine and allowing extended bottle ageing.

Final Word

Pertois-Moriset rejoined the Club des Trésors de Champagne in 2015 and is one of only 28 grower producers authorized to make a Special Club bottling.
