The Producer
A 100% Pinot Blanc cuvée vinified in oak barrels sits within Champagne Michel Furdyna's range. La Romane pairs the white grape with barrel ageing, a method that can broaden texture and add savoury notes through gradual oxygen exchange. The domaine was founded in 1974 in Celles-sur-Ource, Aube, by Michel and Marie-Noëlle Furdyna. It now produces 11 main cuvées and practices sustainable viticulture combining respect for nature, tradition and modernity.
Place
Celles-sur-Ource lies in the Aube, within the Côte des Bar area of Champagne. The producer's named range includes La Romane, a 100% Pinot Blanc cuvée vinified in oak barrels. Pinot Blanc is a white grape, while barrel ageing can give sparkling wine a rounder texture and savoury notes.
Wines
Eleven named cuvées make up the range: La Secrète, La Désirée, Prestige, La Loge, Carte Blanche, Brut Réserve, La Romane, Rosé, Rose Bonbon, Vieux Millésimes, and Etincelles. Brut Réserve is the house signature, while La Romane is the 100% Pinot Blanc cuvée vinified in oak barrels.
Brut Réserve displays intense fruit notes on the nose, with prune, biscuits and butter on the palate. La Romane brings a different cellar profile through oak vinification, placing grape variety and barrel ageing at the center of the bottle.
Final Word
La Romane earned Gold Decanter recognition in 2021 and Silver Decanter recognition from 2022 through 2024.
