The Producer

Three families, Bouillot, Goutorbe and Papleux, have worked in Champagne on the same soil across generations. The vineyard is planted 40% Meunier, 35% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Noir, with Meunier holding the largest share.

Dominique Papleux currently leads the operation. The house combines family continuity with a range built from distinct grape compositions and cuvée styles.

Place

Damery is a village in the Vallée de la Marne west of Épernay. The location places the house in the Marne branch of Champagne, with Damery as its home village.

Wines

The current range includes Champ de Craie, Noir Coteaux, Reflets de Rivière and Extra Brut Retrospective 00-15. Noir Coteaux is a Pinot Noir blend. Extra Brut Retrospective 00-15 is an Extra Brut cuvée, a drier dosage category than Brut.

Reflets de Rivière belongs to the sparkling Champagne range as a named cuvée. Together, the bottles move across different grape compositions and sweetness levels.

In The Glass

The wines show rich, gripping textures, aromatic intricacies, abundant brioche notes and a lemony finish. The texture gives the palate weight, while the brioche notes add breadth before the citrus-marked close.

A Bottle To Understand It

Open Reflets de Rivière first. It is a Brut Champagne made from 60% Pinot Meunier, 20% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir. Meunier takes the largest share, with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir completing the three-grape composition. Its Brut designation places it in a less dry dosage category than Extra Brut Retrospective 00-15.

Final Word

Champagne Goutorbe-Bouillot brings Damery, three grape varieties and Brut and Extra Brut cuvées into one family house.
