The Producer
The cellar at Cave de la Reine Jeanne is the only one in Arbois built in the Gothic style and is designated a Historic Monument. Fermentation uses indigenous yeasts, which are naturally present on grapes and in the cellar. Fining removes suspended material from wine. The producer does not fine the wine, filters it very little and uses minimal sulfur. Its named sparkling white is Crémant du Jura Blanc Extra Brut.
Place
Grapes come mainly from vineyards in the Arbois and Côtes du Jura AOC regions. An AOC is a regulated geographic appellation. Arbois and Côtes du Jura identify the source areas of the fruit, while Crémant du Jura identifies the sparkling wine appellation.
Wines
Crémant du Jura Blanc Extra Brut is the producer's sparkling white under the Crémant du Jura appellation. It uses Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The wine is aged 12 to 16 months. It is pale yellow, with floral and vanilla aromas of good intensity. The palate is round and vinous, ending with a toasted finish.
Final Word
Queen Jeanne built the cellar in 1322, and it remains a working winery for Crémant du Jura Blanc Extra Brut.
