The Producer
Around 2,000 winegrowers in the Silgueiros region work through Adega de Silgueiros. The cooperative was founded in 1962 and began its activity in 1964. It was created to develop production and distribution methods for Dão wine, particularly Silgueiros wine. Its catalogue includes Silgueiros Rosé and Morgado de Silgueiros Encruzado alongside a core red wine, covering rosé, red, and white styles.
Place
The Silgueiros area lies in Dão's granite country at altitude, which preserves acidity in the grapes. The region works with Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Jaen, and Alfrocheiro, the canonical blending grapes of Dão DOC. White grape varieties include Encruzado, Malvasia Fina, Bical, and Cerceal.
Wines
The range includes Silgueiros Rosé, Silgueiros Colheita Tinto, Morgado de Silgueiros Encruzado, Morgado de Silgueiros CS Branco, and Silgueiros Colheita Branco. Silgueiros Rosé is pale pink with subtle notes of fresh red berries. The core red wine has a ruby colour and a fresh aroma with notes of red fruits. Its palate has good balance and persistence. Morgado de Silgueiros Encruzado has a citrus yellow colour, with aromas of white orchard fruit and orange blossom.
Final Word
Adega de Silgueiros is a Dão cooperative created to develop Dão wine and, more particularly, Silgueiros wine. Its catalogue spans rosé, red, and white styles, with Encruzado named in Morgado de Silgueiros Encruzado.
