Who makes it
Manfred Tement inherited roughly three hectares after his father died and took over the winery in 1976. Armin joined in 2005 and took formal responsibility in 2008; Stefan joined in 2010. Monika also works in the family team.
The family established Domaine Ciringa in 2004. Its vineyards adjoin Zieregg on the Slovenian side of the border.
Where it grows
Tement’s Austrian vineyards are in Steiermark, with slopes facing southeast to southwest. Across the border, Ciringa’s vineyards lie at 340 to 480 metres on coralline limestone.
Some labels name the soils: Kalk & Kreide refers to limestone and clay, while Muschelkalk denotes limestone. Ried Sulz and Ried Zieregg name individual vineyards.
What they make
Kalk & Kreide Sauvignon Blanc blends fruit from 50 South Styrian sites. It is dry, with noticeable acidity and aromas of gooseberry, pear, blackcurrant leaf, nettle and lemon. Morillon Muschelkalk has citrus and stone fruit with a fuller, savoury texture.
The range also includes Ried Sulz Morillon and wines from Ried Zieregg, including IZ Reserve. Domaine Ciringa makes Slovenian Sauvignon Blancs under the Fosilni Breg, Pruh and Reserve names.
