The Producer
Tolpuddle Vineyard produces Chardonnay and Pinot Noir exclusively. The vineyard's name comes from the Tolpuddle Martyrs, a group of British farm labourers transported to Australia in the 1830s after attempting to form a union.
Place
Tolpuddle Vineyard sits in Tasmania's Coal River Valley, near Richmond and Hobart. The tasting room offers guided tastings of current Chardonnay and Pinot Noir releases alongside an example from an earlier vintage. Visits are by appointment.
Wines
The range is divided by grape variety, with Chardonnay as the white wine and Pinot Noir as the red. The 2024 Pinot Noir has dark, brooding fruit and lifted aromas of aniseed and pepper, with fine integrated tannins and a minerally finish. The 2024 Chardonnay is fine and precise, with fresh sugar snap pea, fennel, white nectarine and a hint of struck match. Its palate carries a textural glaze of grapefruit pith and a sapid, mineral line.
Final Word
Both wines will repay careful cellaring for up to 12 years.
