The Producer
Mulderbosch's early cellar produced Sauvignon Blanc, Blanc Fumé and Chardonnay. Hydro Holdings added a new bottling line and extended the existing cellar after Larry Jacobs sold the farm to the group in 1996. Ben Truter and his family trust took control of Mulderbosch and sister winery Kanu in late 2009 or early 2010.
Place
Stellenbosch Kloof is the setting for Mulderbosch's tasting destination, with views of surrounding vineyards. The estate seeks to preserve natural heritage and biodiversity and uses environmentally responsible practices while farming.
Wines
The portfolio spans single variety, single vineyard, estate and blended bottlings across red, white and rosé styles. Mulderbosch Old Vine Steen Op Hout 2022 is Chenin Blanc, full bodied and nuanced, with clear minerality, floral nuances and long ageing potential. Mulderbosch Single Vineyard Series Cabernet Franc 2021 is made entirely from Cabernet Franc and is dry, medium bodied and oaked.
Final Word
Mulderbosch wines are meant for drinking upon purchase. Some can last up to 10 to 15 years, when maturity and secondary flavours add another dimension.
