The Producer
Mád's terroir is the subject MAD Wine sets out to express. Gábor Urbán is named as the winemaker. The wine operation dates its foundation to 2008, while MAD Wine Kft was incorporated on 23 April 2007. The producer works with Furmint, Hárslevelű and Sárgamuskotály across white, dry, sweet and Tokaji Aszú styles.
Place
The vineyards cover 20 hectares divided among eleven plots, most in first class areas. Most holdings are in Mád, with additional vineyards in Tállya, Rátka and Tarcal. The selected plots were highly classified in 1737, during the world's first vineyard classification.
Wines
The range includes white wines, dry wines, sweet wines and Tokaji Aszú. Dongo Furmint 2016 is a dry single vineyard Furmint from the Dongo vineyard in Tállya, a site cultivated since the 18th century. It was hand harvested, fermented with native yeasts, put through malolactic fermentation and matured for ten months in third use Hungarian Zempléni oak barrels. Mad Szent Tamás 2014 is also a white wine from Mad Wine Kft.
Final Word
MAD Wine puts a named vineyard dry Furmint beside sweet wines and Tokaji Aszú, with Mád at the centre of the range.
