The Producer
Yiannis Boutaris founded Kir-Yianni Estate in 1997 after leaving his family's Boutari Wine Group, founded in 1879. He established an independent, quality focused estate and later served as President of the Greek Wine Federation.
Xinomavro sits at the centre of the estate's work. The range also includes a red blend and Assyrtiko, giving the producer both red and white wines alongside its focus on the indigenous variety.
Place
The vineyards lie on the eastern slopes of Mount Vermion, at 250 to 350 metres. They are within Naoussa PDO, the appellation associated here with the estate's Xinomavro focus.
Wines
The red range includes Ramnista Xinomavro and The Fallen Oak. Ramnista shows red cherry, cranberry, raspberry, cedar and a long finish.
The Fallen Oak blends Xinomavro, Merlot and Syrah in proportions of 50%, 30% and 20%. Oak maturation places coffee, cocoa, bread crust and vanilla behind complex red fruit. Its tannins contribute to a soft mouthfeel, with balanced acidity, a lingering aftertaste and earthy notes.
Assyrtiko provides the white wine in the range, with floral and mineral notes alongside peach and white fruit.
Final Word
Kir-Yianni Estate keeps Xinomavro at the centre while giving the range room for a blended red and a white Assyrtiko.
