The Producer
The stone winery and family home sit on a historic property in Coombsville, where Annie Favia and Andy Erickson built Favia around farming and winemaking. Annie is the viticulturist and Andy is the winemaker. Before starting the project, both had worked at prominent Napa Valley wineries and vineyards.
Favia's first noncommercial wine was made in 2001; the first commercial vintage and release was in 2003. The winery works with selected Vaca Mountains vineyard sites and maintains relationships with growers while refining viticultural practices. In the cellar, the team uses gentle handling and minimal intervention.
Place
Coombsville is Napa's youngest AVA, and Favia's family home and winery occupy a historic property there. The range also includes an Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, connected to the 86 acre Oakville parcel that Favia became steward of in early 2023.
Coombsville and Oakville appear as separate place names on the Cabernet Sauvignon bottles, while La Magdalena brings Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc together in one wine.
Wines
The range includes three 2018 red wines: Favia La Magdalena Napa Valley, Favia Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley and Favia Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley. La Magdalena is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The other two wines are Cabernet Sauvignon bottlings identified by Coombsville and Oakville.
The Oakville Cabernet has a full body and layered concentration while retaining freshness. The labels place a Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc blend beside two place named Cabernet Sauvignon wines.
Final Word
Favia brings together a Coombsville home, selected Vaca Mountains sites and gentle cellar handling, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc at the centre of the range.
