The Producer
Javier Bohórquez is an agronomist from a farming family in Jerez de la Frontera who set up a wine project near Pesquera de Duero. Bodegas Bohórquez works only with grapes from its own vineyard, primarily Tempranillo with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot also planted.
The Bohórquez surname appears on every bottle, a choice that joins the family's farming trajectory to the wine. The cellar puts its preference for balance over power into practice: natural yeasts guide fermentation, French and American oak are used in nearly equal proportions, and extra maturation softens tannins and adds spice.
Place
At high altitude in a cool climate, the vineyards near Pesquera de Duero in Valladolid generally ripen grapes more slowly, helping them retain acidity as flavours develop. Bodegas Bohórquez sits within the Ribera del Duero Denominación de Origen.
Wines
The red range includes Crianza and Reserva bottlings, Spanish categories that mark different amounts of ageing before release. Bohórquez Crianza and Cardela Crianza are the same Ribera del Duero red under different labels. The Crianza has intense, powerful fruit expression on the nose, with complex, fresh and mineral notes of liquorice and redcurrant. The grapes come from its own vineyard, primarily Tempranillo with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot also planted.
Final Word
The wines come from Bodegas Bohórquez's own vineyard and ferment with natural yeasts before extra cellar maturation. Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot make up most of the vineyard behind the Crianza and Reserva range.
