The Producer
Founder and owner Yevhen Shneyderis works with an 11-hectare vineyard. Alongside its established varieties, Beykush has experimental plantings of Telti-Kuruk, Alvarinho, Timorasso, Tempranillo, Malbec and Pinotage.
The winery follows a minimal-intervention approach. Harvesting is done by hand at dawn, with each variety picked separately at its chosen point of ripeness.
In 2022, Beykush operated near the front line while shelling continued nearby. The winery itself had not been hit at that time. Harvest began at the expected time, with work carried out cautiously.
Wines
The three named 2023 bottles are Red Mr. Pinotage Beykush Winery, Beykush Artana Red and Amphora Rkatsiteli Beykush Winery.
Elsewhere in the range, Beykush Red is made entirely from Pinotage. It ferments in stainless-steel tanks at 22°C, then spends six months in stainless steel without oak. The steel-only élevage is intended to preserve Pinotage's varietal character, while controlled fermentation aims to retain aromatic freshness and avoid harsh, aggressive tannins. Annual production is 5,200 bottles.
Amphora Rkatsiteli is made entirely from Rkatsiteli and fermented in 400-litre Catalonian clay amphoras. For another red blend, each variety is barrel-aged separately before the winemaker composes the final blend.
