Weingut Sattlerhof

A family-led Gamlitz estate focused on Sauvignon Blanc, with organic grapes and vineyards worked entirely by hand.

The producer

Andreas and Alexander Sattler lead the roughly 35-hectare organic estate in Gamlitz, with a particular focus on Sauvignon Blanc. Vineyard work is performed entirely by hand, including pruning, canopy work and selective harvesting. Sattlerhof first bottled Gamlitz Sauvignon Blanc with the 2012 vintage. At Sernauberg, Sauvignon Blanc and Muskateller grow on an extremely steep, southeast-facing site with fine sandy soils and gravelly overlays; the estate associates the sand with silky structure.

The Producer

Sattlerhof's first documentary mention dates to 1886, when vines already grew around the house on Sernauberg. The property was then a mixed farm with animals and arable fields alongside the vines. The legal founding date of the winery is not known.

Andreas and Alexander Sattler now lead the estate, with a particular focus on Sauvignon Blanc. Both trained in viticulture. Their sister Michaela is responsible for the wines' label designs.

The family works exclusively with organically grown grapes from its own vineyards. Vineyard work is performed entirely by hand, from pruning and canopy work through selective harvesting.

Place

Sernauberg is an extremely steep, southeast-facing vineyard with fine sandy soils and gravelly overlays. Sauvignon Blanc and Muskateller are planted there. The estate associates the fine sand with a silky structure in the wines.

Sernauberg is one of four principal named vineyards alongside Kranachberg, Pfarrweingarten and Kapellenweingarten.

Wines

The range represented here comprises Sattlerhof Ried Sernauberg Sauvignon Blanc 2021, Sattlerhof Gamlitz Sauvignon Blanc 2024 and Sattlerhof Gamlitz Morillon 2020. The first links Sauvignon Blanc directly to the Sernauberg site, while the other two carry the Gamlitz name across Sauvignon Blanc and Morillon.

Sattlerhof first bottled Gamlitz Sauvignon Blanc with the 2012 vintage and was among the first producers in Südsteiermark to do so. The named-vineyard range extends beyond Sernauberg to Kranachberg, Pfarrweingarten and Kapellenweingarten.
