The story
When Versailles Preferred Fronsac
In the early eighteenth century, the Duc de Richelieu kept a property at Château de Fronsac and reportedly brought the appellation's wine to Versailles, presenting it to the court as the finest Bordeaux could produce — superior, he claimed, to anything the Médoc had on offer. Whether Louis XV's court recorded an opinion is not known, but the commercial effect was real: Fronsac's prices ran ahead of Pomerol's for the better part of a century. Then the twentieth century's auction market arrived around Pétrus, and the ranking inverted permanently. The clay-limestone hillside Vignoble Hermouet farms today is the same ground the Duc was publicising. It has not moved. The tannin is still firm, the plum still dark, the iron-earth note still present in the mid-palate. The label costs a fraction of what that same clay produces four kilometres to the east.

Vignobles Hermouet began with the acquisition of properties in 1987. The holdings brought together a vineyard in the Fronsac appellation and land around the Meynard butte in Villegouge.
Red wine makes up the bulk of production at Château Roc Meynard. Dry white joined the range in 2012, extending a portfolio built around wines for the table and everyday enjoyment. Across the range, the house style emphasizes liveliness, freshness and clarity.
Wines
Four Château Roc Meynard bottlings define the current selection. Bordeaux Supérieur 2020 represents the reds, while Bordeaux Clairet 2025 sits between red and rosé. The whites are Bordeaux Blanc Sec 2024 and Bordeaux Blanc Grand Cuvée 2024.
The Clairet and Bordeaux Supérieur come from 25-year-old vines. Merlot and Malbec supply the Clairet, which is juicy, fresh and lively and is served chilled. Bordeaux Supérieur is primarily Merlot, with Cabernet Sauvignon bringing structure and lift; its vines are farmed sustainably under Esther Hermouet’s stewardship.
Château Roc Meynard Blanc blends Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. It is lively and floral, with brightness, freshness and a balanced, expressive character.
