The Major’s second distillery

In 1872, John Grant’s son took control of The Glen Grant. Known as “The Major,” he installed purifier pipes, designed the distillery’s stills and began exports. In 1898, he built a second distillery across the road from Glen Grant, later known as Caperdonich. The work joined a change inside the stillhouse to a new physical presence in Rothes: purifier-led equipment at Glen Grant and another distillery building opposite it.
