The producer
Quinta D´Amares sits in Amares, within Portugal’s Vinho Verde region, where its approximately 50 hectares of vines form one continuous holding with a sunny south-facing exposure. Its labels include Vinho Verde DOP and Vinho Regional Minho IG wines; Amare 2023, a Loureiro and Alvarinho blend, puts the estate’s regional setting and grape choices into a dry, 10% white.
In the cellar, grapes are gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel at 13–15°C. Amare 2023 shows yellow pear, herbs, honeydew melon, pineapple and citrus peel, then yellow plum and tropical fruit on the palate. The fruit has a light body, dry finish and citrus-led acidity rather than oak weight.

Quinta D´Amares
At A Glance
Quinta D´Amares grows wine grapes across approximately 50 hectares in one continuous holding at Santo André de Rendufe, in Portugal’s Vinho Verde region. South-facing vineyards and a stainless-steel cellar set the practical frame for its whites: grapes are gently pressed, then fermented at 13–15°C to hold onto fresh fruit before bottling under Vinho Verde DOP or Vinho Regional Minho IG labels.
The Producer
Quinta D´Amares is an estate rather than a patchwork of separately named vineyard purchases: its roughly 50 hectares run as one connected holding in Amares municipality. That continuity carries through to bottles such as Amare 2023, where Loureiro and Alvarinho meet cool fermentation and gentle pressing in a dry, low-alcohol white.
The estate works within two classifications. A Vinho Verde DOP label places a wine in the demarcated Vinho Verde appellation, while Vinho Regional Minho IG marks a regional Minho wine; on Quinta D´Amares bottles, those terms sit alongside the grape names that explain what is in the glass.
Place
Santo André de Rendufe lies in the Vinho Verde demarcated region, beside the Monastery of Rendufe. The estate’s sunny southern exposure gives the vines more direct light, supporting ripening while the region’s white-wine setting remains central to blends such as Loureiro–Alvarinho Amare 2023.
Amares appears on the estate’s address, but the bottle tells the more useful wine story through its classification and grapes. Amare 2023 names Loureiro and Alvarinho; the Vinho Verde designation places that blend within the northern Portuguese region where the estate farms its continuous vineyard.
Soil And Site
The defining site detail here is orientation, not a named rock type: Quinta D´Amares faces south and receives generous sun. In a white-wine estate, that exposure matters because fruit can reach ripeness before cool handling in the cellar preserves a lighter, dry profile rather than pushing the wine toward weight or oak flavour.
The monastery next door is part of the estate’s physical setting, while its 11th-century origins and a 17th-century aqueduct give the property a built landscape around the vines. Those landmarks do not describe a flavour by themselves; the wine consequence comes from the vineyard exposure and the grapes named on the label.
Story
Quinta D´Amares places its wines beside the long history of Rendufe: the neighbouring Benedictine monastery dates to the 11th century, and the estate also identifies a 17th-century aqueduct as part of its heritage. After 1834, the monastery church became parochial, other facilities were sold, and much of the older monastery was later lost to fire; the present wine estate therefore sits beside surviving pieces of that setting rather than an untouched monastic complex.
Its current wine work is defined by an agricultural holding and a modern cellar. Fifty connected hectares supply the estate framework, while steel presses, tanks and storage vessels keep the route from gently pressed grapes to bottles such as Amare 2023 focused on fruit, acidity and dry finish rather than wood character.
Vineyards And Cellar
A continuous vineyard holding lets Quinta D´Amares work one estate area rather than assembling a white wine from scattered growers. The supported cellar choices are equally direct: gentle pressing limits hard extraction from the grapes, while stainless steel avoids adding oak aroma to Loureiro, Alvarinho and Arinto-based whites.
Fermentation is temperature-controlled between 13°C and 15°C. That cool range is used to preserve fruit character, so Amare 2023 can show pear, citrus peel and tropical fruit notes with only 10% alcohol and less than 0.3g of sugar per 100ml, finishing dry rather than sugary.
Wines
The documented range moves through two label frameworks, Vinho Verde DOP and Vinho Regional Minho IG, with white blends providing the clearest view of the estate. Amare 2023 is Vinho Verde made from Loureiro and Alvarinho: a dry, 10% white whose fruit-led profile keeps the body light and the finish clean.
A second documented wine, Quinta de Amares Loureiro e Arinto Superior Branco Vinho Verde, pairs Loureiro with Arinto under the Vinho Verde designation. Set beside the Loureiro–Alvarinho Amare, it shows that Loureiro is not treated as a single-variety statement here: the partner grape changes the blend while stainless-steel handling keeps the range in a fresh white-wine register.
In The Glass
Amare 2023 opens with yellow pear, herbs, honeydew melon, pineapple and citrus peel. The palate follows with citrus, yellow plum and tropical fruit; the low alcohol and dry sugar level keep those ripe notes from turning heavy, while the citrus-peel character supplies lift through the mouth.
The wine is fruity and youthful rather than oak-marked. Gentle pressing and cool fermentation support that direct fruit profile, and the finish returns to honeydew, citrus and a balanced, dry close instead of tannin, toast or lingering sweetness.
A Bottle To Understand It
Start with Amare 2023, a Vinho Verde white made from Loureiro and Alvarinho. It brings the estate’s key facts together in one bottle: grapes from the south-facing holding, gentle pressing, fermentation at 13–15°C, stainless-steel handling, 10% alcohol and a dry finish. Expect yellow pear, herbs, honeydew, pineapple, citrus peel and yellow plum, with bright fruit rather than oak weight. It is the most fully documented way into Quinta D´Amares because both the blend and the cellar approach are visible in the glass.
Anecdote
In 2005, Quinta D´Amares joined a packaging collection and treatment system for the materials leaving the estate with its bottles. Eight years later, in 2013, it built a biological wastewater-treatment plant on the property. These were two dated changes within the estate’s environmental-management work, which it describes as an effort to reduce impact and balance the use of natural resources. The first measure concerned packaging after wine had been bottled and sent out; the later construction dealt with water from the working winery. Both sit alongside the vineyards at Santo André de Rendufe and the stainless-steel cellar where the estate makes its Vinho Verde and Minho wines.
Final Word
Quinta D´Amares is worth finding for a clear combination: a large connected Vinho Verde estate, sun-facing vines, cool steel fermentation and dry white blends whose grapes are printed plainly on the bottle. Amare 2023 turns that combination into pear, melon, tropical fruit and citrus peel.
