The story

The MONTEVITIS Launch

On 7 June 2023 at 3 p.m., the MONTEVITIS launch event was scheduled at the University of Donja Gorica. MNB Kruna was among the participating wineries and one of the project's winery partners. The European Union funded MONTEVITIS through Horizon Europe. Four family operated vineyards were chosen as pilot sites, including MNB Kruna. At the pilot vineyard, WS3 sensors record temperature, humidity, wind, air pressure and precipitation. The readings arrive every 30 minutes, producing 48 measurements each day.

The Ulcinjski Application

On 18 April 2019 at 15:08, Montenegro's agriculture ministry published notice of an application to protect the Ulcinjski subregion designation of origin. The application came from MNB Kruna, which the ministry described as the sole wine producer in that winegrowing subregion. The notice recorded the producer's request for protection of the designation and connected MNB Kruna with the formal naming of an Ulcinj wine area.

Place

Briska gora near Ulcinj lies in southern Montenegro's warm Mediterranean coastal karst climate. Warm Mediterranean conditions support grape ripening through sustained heat, while karst ground commonly drains water quickly after rain. The setting can give vines a long, warm season alongside limited water storage in the ground.

Wines

The range is weighted toward red wine. Status 2016, Status Barrique 2015 and Status Reserve 2010 are red wines, while Paradigma 2020 is white. Status Reserve 2010 is made entirely from Vranac, and Vranac is one of the grape varieties recorded at MNB Kruna's vineyard. Paradigma 2020 is made entirely from Chardonnay.
