The story
Sommar Starts the Seasons
On 20 June 2013, Mjödhamnen launched Sommar as a dry rosé style blend of eight different meads. The launch gave it a large, clean sea buckthorn aroma, followed by honey and a little spice. Sommar's success prompted a seasonal range. Vinter became the spiced bottle for the Christmas table, Höst the powerful blueberry rich mead with a red wine likeness, and Vår the lighter, more acidic mead with elderflower. Mjödhamnen kept the seasonal meads in the range while noting that each one continues to change with every new bottling.

The Producer
Mjödhamnen began in 2007 by importing mead into Sweden from Poland and the United States. It later developed mobile production, with fermentation tanks installed in a renovated bus. Honey came directly from beekeepers, while the mobile unit allowed fresh local ingredients to be used in several parts of Sweden.
The company cooperated with Grimfrost on mead exports. Jarl's Brew was developed together with Mjödhamnen, linking the Swedish producer to a named international collaboration.

Wines
The export series developed with Grimfrost comprises three meads. Jarl's Brew is the named collaboration bottle, and it took first place in the Mazer Cup's sweet traditional category.
The seasonal range follows Vinter, Höst, Vår and Sommar, with each name marking a different seasonal direction. Vinter is the Christmas table bottle, Höst the red wine analogue, Vår the lighter style, and Sommar the dry style. The bottles remain in the range while changing with each bottling.
In The Glass
Sommar has a sea buckthorn aroma and a wild raspberry colour. On the palate, quince brings crisp acidity while honey remains soft and subtle, with raspberry and herbal notes alongside it.
The 2015 Vår bottling was dry and still, with fresh herbal aromas and a soft texture. Its combination included linden, raspberry, apple blossom and rapeseed honeys with elderflower, lemon balm and rhubarb.
The 2013 Höst bottling was dry and still, deep red and astringent, dominated by wild blueberry. Honey and elderberry sit behind the assertive acidity of blackcurrant. The seasonal meads continue to change with each bottling.
A Bottle To Understand It
Sommar Mjöd 2023 is the first bottle to pour. It is associated with Kristinehamns kommun, and its original release was a rosé style blend of eight different meads. The current recipe is not fixed, because the seasonal meads continue to change with each bottling.
