The story

The Oldest Field

In 2006, the property's previous owner planted the field that remains Kullabergs Vingård's oldest vineyard. Nicola D’agostini and Helena Lindberg now oversee viticulture at the Swedish producer in Höganäs Municipality, Skåne County. Every grape variety belongs to the PIWI family, whose high resistance to fungal diseases allows Kullabergs to avoid fungicides and pesticides. The estate's wines include white, red, sweet and sparkling styles.

The Producer

Kullabergs Vingård works in Höganäs Municipality, Skåne County, with a current vineyard area of 22 hectares. Nicola D’agostini and Helena Lindberg are the winemakers and oversee viticulture. Immelen is the flagship wine, while the range includes white, red, sweet and sparkling styles.

The estate works with grape varieties from the PIWI family, a group bred for resistance to fungal diseases. That vineyard material shapes both the farming and the range, from Solaris and Souvignier Gris in white wines to Pinot Nova and Cabaret Noir in red wines.

Place

The nearby sea affects temperatures, sunshine and precipitation at Kullaberg. Cool autumn nights help the grapes retain fresh acidity while remaining on the vines longer, bringing high aromatic character to the fruit.

This is Swedish wine from Höganäs Municipality in Skåne County. The maritime setting and long northern summer daylight define the growing conditions before the grapes reach the cellar.

Soil And Site

The vineyard ground mixes sand and clay above bedrock containing the local Kullait mineral. Sand drains quickly, while clay can hold more water around the roots. Kullabergs also makes compost from vine prunings, grape pomace, locally sourced horse manure and other biomaterials, then works it into the soil.

Compost adds organic material to the ground and can improve water holding in dry periods. The site combines mixed soils with a farming system built around PIWI vines and locally prepared compost.

Story

Nicola D’agostini and Helena Lindberg oversee viticulture as Kullabergs Vingård plans further planting for 2026. Every grape variety belongs to the PIWI family, whose high resistance to fungal diseases allows the estate to avoid fungicides and pesticides. The present vineyard work therefore joins expansion with a defined choice of grape material and farming method.

Vineyards And Cellar

The white plantings are Solaris, Souvignier Gris, Donauriesling and Muscaris. The red varieties are mostly Pinot Nova and Cabaret Noir, with smaller plantings of Rondo and Regent. Fruit is harvested both manually and mechanically, depending on the vineyard parcel.

In the cellar, steel highlights fruit, acidity and aromatics, while barrels bring more complexity and roundness. Josefinelust is made by the traditional method, with a second fermentation taking place in bottle.

Wines

Immelen is the flagship white blend. The 2023 wine contains 66% Solaris, 27% Souvignier Gris and the remainder Muscaris. Solaris contributes maturity and depth, Souvignier Gris contributes acidity, and Muscaris contributes aroma.

Langweg is a single variety Souvignier Gris wine made through a cross border collaboration. Franz Schuster grows the grapes in Styria, Austria, and Kullabergs Vingård carries out the vinification, so the wine is sold as an EU wine.

Solvik is a sweet Solaris wine made from grapes affected by noble rot and aged in steel and oak. Josefinelust supplies the sparkling side of the range through its second fermentation in bottle.

In The Glass

Langweg 2023 has oak character with yellow apple, mango, mimosa, nuts, grilled lemon, butter and cardamom. The aromas move from ripe fruit and flowers toward toasted, creamy and spiced notes.

Solvik 2023 is sweet and full bodied, with stone fruit, dried fruit and spice. It also shows yellow fruit, honeydew, nettles, green herbs, golden raisins and noble rot character, with sweetness balanced by acidity. The wine has approximately 97 g/l residual sugar.

A Bottle To Understand It

Choose Immelen. It is Kullabergs Vingård's flagship white blend, made from Solaris, Souvignier Gris and Muscaris. The wine ranges from clear fruit to bready, nutty and toasted notes, with a silky, full bodied mouthfeel.

Immelen places the estate's multi variety blending in one bottle. Langweg isolates Souvignier Gris, while Solvik focuses on sweet Solaris and noble rot.

Anecdote

In 2025, Immelen 2022 became the first Swedish wine ever served at the Nobel Banquet. The bottle came from Kullabergs Vingård in Höganäs Municipality, Skåne County.

Final Word

Kullabergs Vingård makes Swedish wine from PIWI grape varieties, with Immelen as its flagship, Solvik as a sweet Solaris wine and Josefinelust as a traditional method sparkling wine.
