Place

Finca Rovellats farms 50 hectares of estate vineyards in Sant Martí Sarroca, in Alt Penedès, with the vines clustered around the winery in a château style estate. The property includes medieval buildings dating from the 10th through the 15th centuries.

Beneath the 15th century farmhouse, the underground cellar extends 12 metres below ground. Its plan forms a six pointed star around a central roundabout, giving the Cava a cellar built into the historic estate itself.

Story

Josep Vallès Rovira began the cava project at the beginning of the 20th century and built the underground cellar with its radial architecture. Rosa Vallès and Joan Cardona later promoted major technological innovations as the second generation.

Production was interrupted during the Spanish Civil War and resumed in 1940. The business then became one of the oldest family businesses in the Cava sector.

Wines

The named wines include Gran Reserva Col·lecció Extra Brut 2018, Gran Reserva Original Brut Nature 2020 and Gran Reserva Masia Segle XV Brut Nature. The range moves between Extra Brut and Brut Nature styles, with the bottles identified by vintage and extended ageing.

In The Glass

Gran Reserva Col·lecció Extra Brut 2018 finishes very long, led by roasted notes and a discreet spicy accent.
