The Producer
At Valdepeñas, American oak barrels support crianza, reserva and gran reserva wines. In La Mancha, the winery in La Puebla de Almoradiel focuses on young wines from indigenous and international grape varieties.
Félix Solís is the family owned company behind these two production centres. Its range moves between wines intended for early release and bottles shaped by time in oak and bottle. Its Spanish portfolio is built around different grape combinations, ageing categories and cellar roles.
Place
Valdepeñas and La Mancha are the named production areas in central Spain. Valdepeñas carries the traditional ageing categories, while La Mancha is associated here with young wines from both local and international grapes.
The La Mancha winery sits in La Puebla de Almoradiel, a place with a long tradition of grape growing and winemaking. Vines there are traditionally grown as widely spaced bush vines. Trellising and irrigation are also permitted under the region's D.O. rules, giving growers different ways to manage canopy exposure, water supply and grape ripening.
Soil And Site
Between Campo de Calatrava and Montiel, the vineyards sit among gentle countryside, rolling plains and soft hills. The soils are clay and chalky.
Clay can hold moisture, while chalky ground can improve drainage and contribute a firmer feel to wine. The balance depends on the individual site and growing season.
Story
Félix Solís bought the La Mancha winery in 2002 in response to the region's increasing winegrowing potential. Several years of major investment in the facilities followed. The first wines from the investment programme reached the market in 2012.
The La Mancha site entered the range as a modern home for young wines, alongside the Valdepeñas cellar's work with traditional ageing categories.
Vineyards And Cellar
The Solís family works in partnership with family owned vine growers across a broad vineyard network. At Valdepeñas, the site can receive 7.5 million kilos of grapes daily and has winemaking capacity for 175 million kilos.
The La Mancha facility covers 50,000 square metres, houses 3,000 American oak barrels and bottles 6,000 bottles per hour. The scale supports young wine production, bottling and the barrel ageing required for crianza, reserva and gran reserva wines.
Wines
Mucho Mas Red Blend combines Tempranillo, Grenache and Syrah. Its grapes come from several Spanish wine growing origins and old vines harvested by hand. Mucho Mas Organic Syrah is a single variety Syrah from VdlT Castilla.
Viña Albali Reserva is a Tempranillo made from grapes selected from low yield old vineyards. It is the oak and bottle aged Reserva wine in this group, placing it alongside the younger releases as a separate ageing style.
In The Glass
Mucho Mas Red Blend opens with ripe black fruit, scrubland and balsamic notes, followed by touches of leather and vanilla. The palate is broad and lively, with fruit, mineral and cocoa notes leading into a persistent finish.
Mucho Mas Organic Syrah is fruit forward and flavorful, showing blackberry, plum, violet, mint, liquorice and white pepper.
Viña Albali Reserva brings vanilla, chocolate, spice and fruit jam on the nose. The palate is soft, with evident tannins and a long smooth finish.
A Bottle To Understand It
Choose Viña Albali Reserva. It is Tempranillo from low yield old vineyards, aged in American oak for 12 months and then in bottle for two to three years. The Reserva category places it in the range's traditional aged red tier, where oak and bottle time define the wine's role alongside the young releases.
Anecdote
In 1952, Félix Solís Fernández moved to Valdepeñas to establish a family winery. The Solís family's wine trade dated to the nineteenth century and ran through the Camino Real linking Madrid and Andalusia. Félix Solís Fernández was drawn by the fame and quality of Valdepeñas wines. Félix Solís, S.A. began its career in 1952.
Final Word
Félix Solís joins young La Mancha wines with traditional Valdepeñas ageing in American oak. Its bottles range from Tempranillo, Grenache and Syrah together in Mucho Mas to Tempranillo Reserva shaped by time in wood and bottle.
