Jean Claude Chooses Viticulture
In 1918, Jean-Claude worked as both a cooper and a vigneron. He chose the vine and wine as his sole profession, leaving cooper work behind. A cooper makes wooden casks, while a vigneron tends vines and makes wine. Jean-Claude’s choice moved the family from a craft connected to wine into direct vineyard and cellar work. The later parcel purchase and bottling decision followed the professional change he made in 1918.
Marcel Chooses Estate Bottling
In 1952, Marcel Janin began estate bottling and direct sales. He had acquired parcels at Le Tremblay in 1937, and he believed the link between the domaine and its customers would be essential. Estate bottling means the wine is bottled at the domaine, while direct sales keep the transaction with the estate. Marcel put the two practices together after the family had established its holdings at Le Tremblay. Both choices came from Marcel’s own initiative.
