The story
Marc Pichon's Expansion
In 2008, Marc Pichon purchased the vineyard when five hectares were in production. He expanded it to 50 hectares before his unexpected death in 2016. Véronique Pichon then arrived at the domaine, describing her first role as playing the firefighters. The purchase changed the scale of the family vineyard, and Marc's death changed who had to deal with its immediate needs. The sequence was purchase, expansion, death and arrival. Véronique's first task at the estate came during that transition.

The Producer
Marc Pichon purchased the vineyard in 2008, when five hectares were in production, and expanded it to 50 hectares. Domaine Mur-Mur-Ium is a family wine domaine with organic certification.
Véronique Pichon arrived at the domaine after Marc died unexpectedly in 2016. She has argued that wine prices need to come back to earth so young customers do not leave for another drink. The domaine also works with beekeepers to reintroduce bees to its organic parcels.
Wine at Mur-Mur-Ium is framed by hospitality, being together, having fun and loving life.
Place
Domaine Mur-Mur-Ium Syrah Black Elephant carries IGP du Vaucluse, a regional geographical indication from the Rhône. The label names Vaucluse as the place and Syrah as the grape. IGP identifies regional origin, so the bottle's geographic address stays at that level rather than using a village appellation.
Wines
Domaine Mur-Mur-Ium Syrah Black Elephant is a red Syrah under IGP du Vaucluse. It shows an inky black colour with deep purple hues. The palate is full-bodied, with smooth, rounded tannins.
Final Word
Domaine Mur-Mur-Ium is a family domaine where organic farming, beekeeper partnerships and hospitality sit alongside a Rhône Syrah labelled IGP du Vaucluse.
