The Producer

Bertrand Riffault manages the Verdigny domaine after taking over from his father Pierre. Domaine Du Carroir Perrin works under the AOC Sancerre appellation, with Sauvignon Blanc as the larger planting and Pinot Noir also in the vineyards. The domaine handles its vineyard in separate parcels, keeping the work tied to the different Sancerrois terroirs.

Place

Four kilometres separate the domaine from Sancerre town, inside the AOC Sancerre appellation. The soils include calcareous clay, known locally as caillottes, and flint. Calcareous clay and flint are the site's physical markers; the white Sancerre carries minerality and a flint note, alongside citrus, stone fruit and herbs.

Wines

The named bottle is Sancerre Domaine du Carroir Perrin 2023, a white Sancerre from Sauvignon Blanc. The wine is vinified in stainless steel and ages for six months in stainless steel before bottling. Fine lees contact for several months preserves aromatic qualities.

In the glass, it is pale gold with green hints. The nose brings citrus, stone fruit, herbs and flint. The palate is light, mineral and crisp, with a dry finish.

Final Word

Domaine Du Carroir Perrin is a Verdigny family domaine where separately handled parcels lead to a dry white Sancerre from Sauvignon Blanc. The 2023 bottle carries that work into a stainless steel raised wine with fine lees ageing.
