The story
Jean Prat Opens in Paris
Jean Prat faced a property damaged by phylloxera. He constructed La Folie, then worked alongside his sons to expand vineyard operations over approximately two decades. The replanting reached 100 hectares. In 1900, Prat opened a boutique dedicated to Domaine de la Baume wines on Boulevard Haussmann in Paris. The boutique served as a Paris showcase for the estate's wines while the family continued expanding the vineyards. La Folie, the replanting and the Paris boutique all belonged to the same period of recovery and expansion.

Joseph Helfrich, founder and CEO of Grands Chais de France, acquired Domaine de la Baume in 2003. The Helfrich family has owned the property since then. Domaine de la Baume is the group's largest property in Languedoc.

Languedoc supplies the regional address for Domaine de la Baume's wines. The portfolio includes bottles labeled IGP Pays d'Oc and AOP Languedoc. IGP Pays d'Oc is a protected geographic indication, while AOP Languedoc is a protected designation of origin with defined rules for origin and production.

La Jeunesse Syrah is an entry tier bottling. It shows ripe red fruit aromas with black pepper and violet, followed by a full bodied palate with velvety tannins. Terres de la Baume Syrah belongs to the estate's higher tier. It has a dark colour with violet highlights, and a round, suave, velvety palate marked by chocolate, jammy black fruit and violet. Its finish is long and underlines the ripeness of the grapes.

La Jeunesse Syrah is the bottle to open first. It is the entry tier Syrah in the range, placing one named grape and one clear level of the portfolio in the glass before the higher tier represented by Terres de la Baume Syrah.
