In the eighteenth century, Gabriel Ferrière served as a royal official responsible for the king's hunts and founded Château Ferrière. The estate's name comes from that founder. More than a century later, the property appeared in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification as one of the Troisième Crus. The classification placed it in Bordeaux's Third Growth category, a historic ranking of estates rather than a description of one vintage. Château Ferrière is the estate name used for the red 2001 wine.
