Château Carbonnieux is a Bordeaux estate owned and managed by the Perrin family for four generations. Founded in the thirteenth century by Benedictine monks of the Abbaye de Sainte Croix, it farms around 100 hectares around the château under sustainable practices. Red plantings use Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot; white plantings use Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. The white range includes Château Carbonnieux Blanc and La Croix de Carbonnieux. La Croix is pale yellow, fresh, and marked by grapefruit or exotic fruit aromas and minerality characteristic of Pessac-Léognan terroir.

From Monks To Cellars
Château Carbonnieux was founded in the thirteenth century by Benedictine monks of the Abbaye de Sainte Croix. After World War II, Marc Perrin led the Perrin family's acquisition of the property, followed by extensive renovation of the entire estate. In 2011, Château Carbonnieux renovated and remodeled its cellars to enable parcel by parcel vinification. The Perrin family has owned and managed the estate for four generations. At the château, the renovated cellar now allows parcels to be vinified separately.

The Producer

The range divides between red and white plantings. The red vineyard totals 55 hectares, planted 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The white vineyard totals 45 hectares, planted 65% Sauvignon Blanc and 35% Sémillon.
The white range includes Château Carbonnieux Blanc and La Croix de Carbonnieux. Château Carbonnieux Blanc is drinkable after four years of bottle age. La Croix de Carbonnieux is made from Sauvignon and Sémillon, with a pale yellow color, freshness, and aromas of exotic fruits or grapefruit. It spends six months in barrels and large casks before release. La Croix is slightly less powerful than Carbonnieux and can be enjoyed younger.
