The Heart on the Label
Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur held Châteaux Lafite, Latour, and Calon-Ségur simultaneously in the early decades of the 18th century, making him the single most powerful landholder in the Médoc. He was known at court as the Prince of Vines. When asked to name the estate he valued most, he is said to have replied: 'I make wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is at Calon.' The remark was taken literally. A heart was drawn onto the label and remained there through the Ségur heirs, the long Gasqueton tenure, and the 2012 sale to Suravenir. Every bottle the estate produces today — the grand vin, La Chapelle, Le Marquis — carries the same motif: a symbol that survived three centuries and four ownership groups because one man gave a direct answer at court.

The Producer
Château Calon-Ségur dates back to the 12th century and is one of Bordeaux's oldest wine producers. After the 2012 acquisition, the vineyard was restructured, a new vathouse was built, and the ageing cellar was enlarged. The work was in place from 2016. Fermentation now takes place in 70 conical stainless steel tanks, with different volumes allowing parcel by parcel vinification.
