The Producer
Freshness and a silky mouthfeel are the house's defining terms. Champagne Griffon-Trichet is a family Champagne producer whose current leadership is a mother and daughter working together. The family line represents four generations of winemakers, with a female viticultural tradition passing knowledge and passion from mothers to daughters.
The house makes Champagne through a range of named cuvées, with Grande Réserve, Premier Cru and Blanc de Blancs among the wines described in its lineup. The emphasis stays on family continuity and a clean, fresh style of Champagne.
Place
Champagne is the home of Griffon-Trichet, whose family describes its work through wines of Champagne. The region's sparkling wines gain their bubbles through a second fermentation in bottle, while ageing on yeast lees can bring bread and brioche notes and a softer texture.
The vineyards span Montagne de Reims to Massif de Saint-Thierry. That spread places the house across a regional stretch of Champagne, with the wines presented through grape varieties and cuvée names.
Story
Champagne Griffon-Trichet began in 1947. The family line now reaches a fourth generation of winemakers, and the line is specifically female, with viticultural knowledge and passion passed from mothers to daughters.
Béatrice Chrétien and Claire are the mother and daughter working together at the estate. Their joint direction keeps the family handoff inside the vineyard and cellar, linking the house's founding date to its present management.
Vineyards And Cellar
The vineyard holding is divided into 11 parcels, and all are certified HVE and VDC. HVE stands for High Environmental Value, while VDC means Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne. HVE certification was achieved in May 2019.
Sustainable agriculture has been practised in the vineyard for over 25 years. These certifications describe farming practice across the holding, while the cuvées are distinguished by their grape varieties and individual profiles.
Wines
Grande Réserve is a cuvée made from 40% Pinot Noir, 20% Pinot Meunier and 40% Chardonnay. Premier Cru uses 35% Pinot Noir, 40% Pinot Meunier and 25% Chardonnay. Both are Champagne wines built from the three varieties that shape the house's documented blends.
Blanc de Blancs is another named cuvée in the lineup. Tradition is also part of the house's range. Together, the bottles move from stated grape proportions in Grande Réserve and Premier Cru to separate cuvée names with their own sensory profiles.
In The Glass
Grande Réserve opens with fresh citrus, grapefruit and lemon. Lightly buttered toast follows, then yellow fruits such as peach and apricot. On the palate it is balanced and fresh, with distinct minerality and complexity that increases in the glass.
Premier Cru brings citrus vivacity alongside nutty and fruity layers. Blanc de Blancs moves from citrus and grapefruit toward ripe fruit, candied notes and honey, with a balanced, refreshing finish of notable length. Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru adds floral and brioche notes, with lightness, breadth and length.
A Bottle To Understand It
Grande Réserve 2016 is the bottle to open first. It is a vintage Champagne made from Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, with the three grape varieties held in one cuvée. The date ties the bottle to one vintage, while the composition keeps the house's grape choices explicit in a single wine.
Anecdote
In 2022, Béatrice Chrétien and her daughter Claire began directing Champagne Griffon-Trichet together. Claire is the fourth generation of the family, and the pair share a passion for Champagne wines. Their partnership continues a line of female viticulturists in which winemaking knowledge passes from mothers to daughters. Béatrice and Claire now direct the estate jointly, carrying the family handoff into its current management. The transition belongs to the house's continuing female viticultural line.
Final Word
Champagne Griffon-Trichet joins family winemaking, HVE and VDC certified vineyard work, and Champagne cuvées whose grape proportions are stated clearly. Grande Réserve brings Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay together, while Béatrice Chrétien and Claire direct the estate as mother and daughter.
