The Producer

Champagne Geoffroy's range includes Expression Brut, Pureté Premier Cru Brut Nature and Empreinte Millésime Extra Brut. Empreinte Millésime is a Blanc de Noirs, a white Champagne made from black grapes. Rosé de Saignée and Blanc de Rosé Premier Cru Extra Brut add two rosé styles to the range.

The labels move through different dosage categories. Brut Nature indicates a wine with no dosage, while Extra Brut indicates a very dry sparkling style. The bottle names therefore describe both the cuvée and its place within Champagne's sparkling categories.

Place

The vineyards lie in the Vallée de la Marne. The regional name places Champagne Geoffroy within the Marne valley, while the Premier Cru wording on Pureté identifies a classified vineyard origin within the broader region.

Premier Cru is a vineyard classification, not a grape variety or a sweetness category. On Pureté, it sits beside Brut Nature, so the label gives both vineyard status and dry sparkling style.

Story

Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy manages 14 hectares in the Vallée de la Marne and is the fifth generation in his family to grow grapes in the region. His work keeps the current domaine tied to a family grape growing line while the range extends across Brut, Brut Nature, Extra Brut and rosé wines.

Vineyards And Cellar

Champagne Geoffroy practices integrated pest management. Chemical weedkillers are excluded, while cover crops and soil tilling form part of the vineyard work. Cover crops keep living plants between the vines, and tilling works the soil beneath the rows.

The wines do not undergo malolactic fermentation. This preserves more malic acidity in the finished Champagne, giving the wines nerve and supporting their ability to age.

Wines

Expression Brut is the Brut cuvée in the range. Pureté carries both Premier Cru and Brut Nature on its label. Empreinte Millésime is an Extra Brut Blanc de Noirs, while Rosé de Saignée and Blanc de Rosé Premier Cru Extra Brut occupy the rosé positions.

Rosé de Saignée names a rosé made by drawing off juice from grapes during maceration. Blanc de Rosé uses a different style name, keeping the range open to two distinct rosé categories alongside the white wines.

In The Glass

Expression Brut shows a pale gold colour and fine mousse. Its nose opens with warm yeasty bread, followed by green apple and apple pie filling. The palate brings vivid green orchard fruit, gooseberries, green apple and sweet citrus, with fresh lemon peel and flinty minerality. Elderflower, fresh mint and citrus carry into a finish that fades towards wet stones.

Empreinte Millésime brings fresh almond, fresh bread, white grapefruit and red fruit. Racy acidity carries the wine towards a chalky, saline finish.

A Bottle To Understand It

Choose Pureté Premier Cru Brut Nature. Its label places a classified vineyard origin beside a zero dosage style, giving the bottle a clear place within the range. Decanter awarded it 92 points. The wine shows apple and cow parsley on the nose, with floral character and a citric line through an easygoing, uncluttered texture.

Anecdote

Since the seventeenth century, the Geoffroy family has cultivated Champagne grapes in the Vallée de la Marne. Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy is the fifth generation in his family to grow grapes in the region, and he manages 14 hectares. The family history reaches from seventeenth century grape cultivation to a present Champagne domaine with Brut, Brut Nature, Extra Brut and rosé wines.

Final Word

Champagne Geoffroy joins Vallée de la Marne family grape growing with a range that moves from Brut Nature to Extra Brut, while the cellar leaves malolactic fermentation out of the wines.
